Burroughs to Bogart

Got a lift from Tangier to Casablanca with this cool Moroccan dude, Nizar. His cousin Hedy was busy working as a PA on the new Matt Damon flick 'The Bourne Ultimatum' in Tangier, so he decided to boot over to Tarifa solo and party for the night. We met him at the port in Tarifa waiting for the ferry back. He asked to borrow our pen and next thing you know we're cruising south down the highway past cops with flashlights trying to pull him over for speeding. Nizar played it cool by not saying anything, just casually ignoring them and zipping by, but when we asked, "Were those cops?", he told us that he never stops 'cause Morrocan cops are corrupt and that they only get enough gas to get to their spot on the highway and back so there's no way we'd get chased. The Kat and I ended up staying at his place for three days. We hung out and saw a bit of Casablanca, hit a Hammam for a serious cleansing, asked a million questions, met some of his friends and smoked. Hedy's brother Humza came by a couple of nights and we all got high on his homegrown while he told us all about his WILD times at University in Boston. My favorite was when he got busted for having two joints on him with his female friend who happened to be the daughter of the Morrocan Minister of Foreign Affairs. He ended up getting something like fifty hours of community service work. Crazy stuff. And Nizar's younger brother is coming to Toronto this winter to go to animation school. Nizar is going to tag along and stay a couple of weeks to help him get settled.

Nothing ever goes as planned.
